Care Leavers' Bursary

St Mary’s University is pleased to be able to offer bursaries for Care Leavers of £3,000 for each year of your degree programme whilst you study at St Mary’s University*.

The Bursary is one of a number of measures we have in place to support care leavers including; a named point of contact at the university, a guaranteed place in university accommodation (365 days if necessary), financial support for you to attend graduation, automatic registration on to our paid Student Ambassadors Scheme and access to additional Hardship Funds if required.

To be eligible, you need to meet the following criteria:

  1. Be a UK or EU citizen (are a ‘home’ or ‘EU’ status student for fee purposes
  2. Be under the age of 25 when your programme begins
  3. a) Have spent at least three months in the care of the local authority, including at the time of your 16th birthday
    b) Be under the care of the local authority (in a residential home, foster care or a Foyer resident) and/or supported by the local authority when you enrol at university

Please note: any final offer of an award will be subject to you accepting St Mary’s University as your first choice institution, and proof of your Care Leavers status eg. through your social worker/Personal Advisor/Key Worker or other local authority contact.  The university reserves the right to withdraw the award at any time should a student behave in a manner that brings either him or herself, or the university, into disrepute.

*Maximum of three years for an undergraduate degree. Additional funding for one year is available if you are doing an extended degree with a foundation year and/or if you progress to a PGCE programme.
